Mutual bee disease insurance

Bee Diseases Insurance (BDI)

Insurer owned by the beekeeping associations that join it. It compensates beekeepers in England and Wales for equipment lost when colonies are destroyed or treated under the statutory foulbrood orders.

What you will find

  • Compensation for equipment destroyed because of AFB or EFB
  • Separate fund for small hive beetle and Tropilaelaps destruction
  • Cover taken out through your local beekeeping association
  • Research project grants

Good to know

All the colonies a beekeeper owns must be covered; compensation is capped per beekeeper per year.
